Whether you're reading on Reddit, a blog, or Youtube videos, you've probably heard people giving buying advice about Hoverboards saying you want a board with a Samsung battery or at the very least an LG battery, as opposed to the standard Chinese Battery.
Is it really worth paying extra money for a Samsung battery?
The battery is the most important compoment of the Hoverboard so in one sense yes a better quality battery is most definately worth it.
That said the majority of Hoverboards claiming to have Samsung batteries do not have Samsung batteries. Some boards which claim to have Samsung batteries upon opening them up just have generic Chinese batteries. The sellers must count on the fact that almost nobody is going to open up their board and actually check.
That said however, even the boards with Samsung batteries don't necessarily have Samsung batteries. But how can that be? Upon opening up my board there was a sticker that said Samsung, however the sticker was clearly a fake sticker printed off by the factory putting together these boards. I was promised a Samsung battery, the battery said the word Samsung, but was a counterfeit Samsung battery.
I've talked to 2-3 suppliers who openly admitted to me that their covetted "Samsung" batteries are indeed knockoffs. At this point I question whether any board actually has a Samsung battery but if your weighing whether it's worth the cost to pay extra for a Samsung battery it's probably not, as you are most likley paying an extra $16 to $60 for a Samsung sticker put on your chinese battery.

I've been trying to find pictures of counterfeit samsung hoverboard batteries but no one is taking pictures of them. Ours just says "(samsung" in parenthesis and then the voltage and stuff and its not even aligned straight on the battery. There's no printed labeling of certifications or warnings or anything. My husband thinks it's legit but my gut is telling me it's not.
ReplyDeleteUnless you actually ruin a battery and open it up to see the cells you really don't know. This one on Amazon is a true samsung battery, my buddy busted one open. http://amzn.to/1ToLvzQ

DeleteAccording to Samsung, all Samsung labeled hoverboard batteries are fake, Samsung SDI does not supply battery to hoverboard manufacturers. Should be the same for LG labeled counterfeits.
Buyers beware. According to Samsung SDI, all hoverboard batteries are counterfeits. Samsung does not supply battery to hoverboard manufacturers.
DeleteThis is what I have been saying all along. Samsung does not make hoverboard batteries. Samsung makes cells which hoverboard makers may use to make their batteries. Even then though I still doubt teh authenticity of most supposed "samsung" batteries.
DeleteCheckout my recent Youtube video which I show you a guy claiming he has the real deal Samsung yet the label has both Samsung and LG. That seems odd to me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8Xr2mPvz6Q
