If you're shopping for a Hoverboard you may see that some Hoverboards come with a remote control which looks similar to your cars keyfob. Many people want to know what these remotes do as well as if it's worth paying a couple bucks more to get a remote.

The Hoverboard remotes have a few functions. They can turn your scooter off and on. They can also lock the scooter so that it cannot be turned on by pressing the on button on the board. This may be useful if you have children and want to be able to lock up the board when you are not around to supervise them using the board.

As for the on/off  function, it basically just saves you from having to bend over and click the button to turn your board on. As silly and maybe lazy as it seems, it's kind of a neat function.

Many sellers include a free remote, while some sell the remote for an additional charge. It's up to you whether it's worth paying a premium for a remote. On the wholesale level sellers seem to charge an additional $5 for a remote while some sellers who offer it as an upgrade charge as much as $20.
