University of Illinois Bans Hoverboards

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — The University of Illinois' flagship campus is telling students not to bring hoverboards to school when they return from the holiday break.
Urbana-Champaign campus spokeswoman Robin Kaler said the two-wheeled scooters are banned in university housing and may eventually become contraband all over campus. A message sent to students says "Don't bring them to campus!"

Kaler said university administrators are crafting a policy for the campus and plan to have it finished by the time students return on Jan. 19.

University of Illinois-Chicago spokesman Bill Burton said that campus is also considering action.
At least 20 U.S. universities have banned or restricted hoverboards in recent weeks over concerns their batteries can catch on fire.

Elsewhere in Illinois, Illinois State University officials say they have no plans to restrict hoverboards.

Make your Hoverboard more stable at high speeds - Hoverboard Hack

Some Hoverboards have a top speed of almost 12 miles per hour, which is quite fast. So when getting up to higher speeds, sometimes you may find your scooter is almost too responsive, to the point of making riding at high speeds dangerous.

Some people may actually prefer a very "touchy" or responsive board. Other's however find that that ultra sensitity can sometimes make even the slightest lean or even motion of your two send the board into a wild spin and cash if going at very high speeds.

I just stumbled upon this Youtube video today and although it's in a different language than English, there are subtitles. Essentially by wrapping a piece of bike intertube around the center of the board and putting a couple loops of duck tape or electrical tape you can taper off the sensitivity of your board and in turn make it a bit less responsive and easier to ride at high speeds.

Check the video out for yourself. I'm going to test this out on one of my boards and see how I like it. I'll try to make a how to video as well as a riding video and comment how it feels.
